Pay: £33,539.00 per year

Location: Buxton, Derbyshire

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Shift Pattern: Rotational shifts including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and participation in an on-call rota

About the Role

Medsolve are proud to be recruiting on behalf of an established and specialist residential childcare provider for an experienced Children’s Residential Team Leader.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a therapeutic, child-centred residential service supporting children and young people with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs. The successful candidate will provide leadership during shifts, support and mentor staff, ensuring safeguarding practices are upheld, and play a key role in delivering outstanding care for children and young people.

We are looking for an experienced residential childcare professional who can provide strong leadership, promote therapeutic and trauma-informed practice, and support children with complex needs to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and support the staff team during shifts, ensuring effective communication, safe practice and smooth handovers.
  • Act as the senior on duty, making informed decisions that prioritise the safety, wellbeing and development of children and young people.
  • Ensure staffing levels requirements are met and provide meaningful supervisions and appraisals with care staff.
  • Deliver high-quality, child-centred care in line with individual care plans, risk assessments and therapeutic approaches.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people, acting as a positive role model and promoting positive outcomes.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding practice, recognising, responding to and reporting concerns appropriately.
  • Take on Key Worker responsibilities for designated young people, contributing to care planning, reviews and goal setting.
  • Develop and review care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Support children and young people with daily routines, education, appointments, family contact and community-based activities.
  • Ensure all records, reports and documentation are completed accurately and in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education providers and other professionals to meet the needs of children and young people.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and day-to-day guidance to staff, supporting induction and development, performance and training compliance.
  • Support budget managements, monitoring spending and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Assist management with audits, quality assurance processes and maintaining compliance with Ofsted standards.
  • Promote independence, life skills, social development and participation in meaningful activities and experiences.
  • Transport children and young people when required, ensuring safe and responsible use of vehicles.
  • Facilitate family contact and support young people during visits

What We’re Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working within residential childcare.
  • Previous experience leading shifts and a team.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible rota including sleep-ins, weekends and on call duties.

Desirable Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted regulations and inspection frameworks.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
